A Celebration of Achievement
The scene inside Juarez-Lincoln High School is festive and filled with the du-du-dum dum-dum of the Husky drumline. The sound isn’t coming from a pep rally, festival, or sports event –it’s a celebration of achievement.
As the sound bounced off the walls many students hurried out of their seats to be part of the congratulatory gathering, which included a parade of different clubs and organizations celebrating their success.
“We are celebrating for everyone here, and want everyone to know the accomplishments that these groups have [achieved],” said, Victor Maya, a junior at JLHS and a member of the drumline.
There was plenty to celebrate at JLHS. Mariachi Sol de Oro landed a division 1 place to advance to state at the UIL Region Mariachi Competition; the JLHS Ensemble Choir also represented their schools at their UIL regional, where 18 solo & ensemble students advanced to state.
Aside from performing arts, multiple DECA students and teams advanced to state, and the Lady Husky soccer team claimed the title of sub-champions.
The weekend had come to an end and the achievements were behind them, but still a source of inspiration.
“Having the drumline was cool, and I think if we keep this it will inspire [students],” said Rebekah Lopez, a junior at JLHS.
